The drip stone cave Schulerloch is located in the nature reserve Schulerloch near Essing. Once it served a purpose as shelter for Neanderthals and ice-age animals. The dimensions of the cave halls itself are breathtaking. The largest chamber of the cave, called ''temple room'', or ''druids' temple'' covers a space of 792 square metres and is 8 to 9 metres high. A unique water basin called ''Becherstalagmit'' defines the Schulerloch. No comparable dripstone formation has been discovered worldwide.
