Lothar Fischer museum, Neumarkt

Lothar Fischer museum Neumarkt

Next to his own artistic work, Lothar Fischer soon began collecting  works of other artists and cultures.
Thereby his special interest mainly lay with the sculptural works, which in his opinion showed the actual expression of an artwork, due to its spontaneos, self-evident and emotional developing process. In the course of the years his personal collection grew, containing approximately 300 works of art. Among these mainly German works from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s were sculptures, paintings and paperart. However the collection also contains non-European works. The collection is shown selectively on the top floor, in an exhibition room which was especially designed fort his purpose. The part of the collection which is shown corresponds with the topics of the changing exhibitions.
Lothar and Christel Fischer rarely acquired works in galleries. The main part of their collection came into their possession as presents or by swapping art with artist friends. During the cooporation with the art group „Gruppe Spur“ (1958-1965), it was customary to swap works of art. Due to this Heimrad Prems significant canvas „Weg“ from 1959 or „Sich erneuernde Göttin“ (renewing godess) 1964, which originated in the same time as Fischers sculpture „Sich Wiederholende“ (repeating), came into the collection.
